Our Story

The Renovated Barn- Renovations on the Renovated Barn were completed in 2013. The original barn dates back to the early part of the 20th century. My husband and I did all the renovations ourselves and tried to keep as much original as possible. Most of the walls, windows and the ceiling are all original, which really lets you feel like you're staying in an old barn. However, we also did a lot of work including the addition of new floors, doors, roof, and insulation to really tighten the place up. We also did our best to pack all the creature comforts of home into the small space, making for a super comfortable, yet totally unique stay. You won't find similar accommodations anywhere!

We give guests privacy while staying in the Renovated Barn, which is located next to our home, where we live with our 2 dogs. Our dogs are fenced in and kept away from guests, though they are within sight and do bark on occasion. The Renovated Barn is on an actual farm, so I do come onto the grounds each day to feed and tend the animals, once in the morning and again in the late afternoon.

The Expansion- In April 2025 we purchased the property next door, which included 27 acres (mostly steep wooded land), an old Farmhouse and old Smokehouse. The first order of business was to expand the grazing area for the animals. The animals' area quadrupled in size and they couldn't be happier! This also gives guests of the Farmhouse and Smokehouse the chance to experience a bit of farm life, as the new grazing area extends into their yard. There are plans to develop a trail system on the land up above, but since we do all the work here ourselves, this will take a bit of time!

The Farmhouse was actually a one room schoolhouse in the early 1900's. We're not exactly sure when the additions were added, but we estimate around the 1930's-40's. It then became a house on a working farm for several decades. There are remnants of an apple orchard up on the hill, and some old stone wall remnants as well. Locals recall picking corn up there back in the day, and collecting chestnuts from the big tree behind the house.

When we acquired the house, it was in pretty good structural shape, which allowed us to focus more on the appearance, both inside and out. I focused on the inside with funky wallpaper, bold colors, and other quirky touches. We transformed the outside by changing it from white to charcoal gray, and my husband spruced up the porch, with some fancy hand-made trim and deck railing.

The Smokehouse- Many houses in this region have old smokehouses or springhouses located somewhere on their property. These structures were used to smoke meat and/or store food, and were often partially buried in the earth to help regulate the temperature. After such success with the Renovated Barn, we thought this little building would also make a great rental. And true to form, we did all the renovations on this smokehouse ourselves.  We were able to make use of some huge old hand-hewn stones that were at one time the fireplace/chimney in the late 1800s home that was torn down across the road while we were working. The impressive stones surround the Smokehouse, with the original hearthstone forming the first step up to the walk out patio. In addition, we actually jacked the second story up about 15 inches so people wouldn't have to duck to enter. My husband did this seemingly impossible task by himself with a jack, a few posts and some blocks of wood- slowly working his way around the structure lifting each corner an inch at a time. Taller people can thank him later! The renovations on this place took almost a full year. It has been a labor of love, and we think it shows! Don't tell the others, but the Smokehouse is our favorite!!
